Haven’t featured much of Josh Howard on the Major Spoilers website in the last couple of months, and it’s time to rectify that problem now with a series of images Josh has created using cardboard as his medium of choice.

I totally fell in love with the first issue of Hunter’s Fortune from Boom! Studios. Joe Quinones posted the cover to the final installment of the issue over at his website, and I can not wait to see how this series ends.
If you are a fan of Critical Hit, the Major Spoilers Dungeons and Dragons Podcast, then you’ll be happy to know we are recording a new batch of episodes RIGHT NOW! It’s too bad you can’t listen/watch live, but to give you a feel of how epic the encounters are today, we’re giving you a look at some work by Brazilian artist, Felipe Massafera.
A bit late with today’s installment, but I found, then lost, then found once again Adam Archer’s wonderful Poison Ivy piece. I like this, not because of the female form, but the myriad of leaves that are added to the work that blend wonderfully with the background, and the foreground subject.
Kevin Church has a jones for anything featuring J. Jonah Jameson, and for a while has been collecting renditions of J.J. done by artists he likes. Today he posted his latest acquisition from Kevin Nowlan, and it deserves to be seen in today’s Art Appreciation Moment.
This past weekend at the Boston Comic-Con, Cliff Chiang was there sketching like a mad man. He’s posted a few of his sketches on this website, but we couldn’t pass up his version of Buckaroo Banzai.
Had a great time in Boston this past weekend, courtesy of Nick Kanieff, Colin Solan, and everyone else in the Boston Comic-Con crew. Thank you! They are is growing by leaps and bounds, and I’m very excited for their next show in April 2010, with some guys named Jim Lee and Mike Mignola.
How could I let a week go by without featuring the big names of the Legion? Today, it’s Gene’s take on Saturn Girl.
Who says we only have to feature the heroes from the Legion of Super Heroes universe? Today’s Gene Gonzales entry features The Emeral Empress from the Fatal Five. He’s a great character and rendered well by Gonzales, and thanks to 52, we now know where the Emerald Eye of Ekron came from.
A nice thing about the Legion of Super Heroes is the team is composed of both men and women, which means there’s a pretty even distribution of testosterone and estrogen that keeps artists in check. As part of our week long look at Gene Gonzales’ take on the Legion of Super Heroes, we take a look at Timber Wolf, who may or may not look an awful lot like another character from another company…
Our Gene Gonzales/Legion of Super Heroes theme continues this week, with a look at Duo Damsel. Seems appropriate, since yesterday’s entry featured Computo.
You probably guessed after seeing the last two days worth of Art Appreciation Moment entries, that I’m focusing on Gene Gonzales this week. Why? I like his style, and I think he doesn’t get enough attention – especially when he is drawing the Legion of Super-Heroes. So why not take the jump and get a look at his interpretation of Braniac 5?
There have been numerous artists who are mashing up historical images with a superhero flair. Agan Harahap is one of those artists, as he’s taken famous photographs from World War II and inserted some good guys, and at least one bad guy, into the mix to make for a very interesting take on history.
He gives the order of the Day : ‘Full victory-nothing else !’ to paratroopers in England, just before they board their airplanes to participate in the first assault in the invasion of the continent of Europe.
Greenham Common Airfield in England about on June 5, 1944
Today, we’re featuring more of Gene Gonzales’ Legion of Super Heroes work, by taking a look at Chameleon Boy and Proty, as they try to infiltrate the Marvel universe. Suddenly Invasion makes so much more sense. Above is the concept sketch, but you’ll have to take the jump to see the final piece.
If you’re looking for Legion of Super-heroes sketches, you can’t go wrong with the works of Gene Gonzales.
I like this costume. I really do. One of the earliest Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes I ever bought was issue 203. In that issue Invisible Kid dies. Phantom Girl was in quite a bit of that story and I really liked her hair, the costume, and her personality. And she has her hair in pony tails! C’mon! :)
This is ink on 11″ x 17″ Strathmore Bristol Board. I will be putting up this one, Wildfire, and Duo Damsel on eBay tonight for anyone interested.
We’re wrapping up our Statue Appreciation week with a look at the one statue that stirred up all the controversy when it was first released. We’re digging that topic up and presenting it in QuickTime VR for you to take a look and voice your thoughts.
