New Nguyen Cover

Thursday, September 18th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Detective_Hardcover_Picon.jpg

Looks like DC is collecting Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen’s first six issues of Detective Comics into a hard cover and have asked Dustin to do a whole new cover, that frankly is jaw dropping.

so this cover is special to me for many reason.

originally, i thought this was a trade paper back, i could still be wrong, but hopefully im not. It is announced as a hardcover. i did this cover about 3 months ago, it collects our first ( dini, derek, and myself and mr milligan guest stars!) 6 issues of our run- special to me #1.

it was way fun and way flattering for DC to actually ask me do an entire new cover for our collection. i think before, we were just using art from previous issues. And with trades and hardcover, i get to put the logo on anywhere i wants, so i chose the floor. special to me #2

and finally, with this cover and the next one for issue 850, i would have done 12 detective covers so far this year! woohoOO! and its only july! my personal goal for the longest was to be part of Detective Comic’s continuum for at least 12 issues straight- while providing my own covers. if all goes well, i might hit that mark this year. so theres potential “special to me #3″

Take the jump to see the big bad glorious thing.

Dustin Nguyen at it Again

If you loved Dustin Nguyen’s take on the Marvel characters, be prepared to be blown away with this mini version of the Batman Universe.

im sure the costumes are all way off and some are more deformed than others. but for some reason, i have no problem improvising costumes and features for Gotham characters. i figure if they looked cool to me, that was fun enough. unlike the marvel one i did here, where i actually had to go out to look for costumes and ref what they kinda look like.

Very very cool.  You can see more of Dustin’s sketches, and sneaks of his Detective Comics stuff at his blog site.

Because Everyone Loves CG Gophers

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

DeviantArt is a great place to find works by the talented (and not so talented) artists of the world. Fortunately, “Jolly Jack” falls into the talented category and scores bonus points for the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull dig.

From_the_crayons_of_G__Lucas_by_jollyjack.jpg

What is it about George Lucas’ ability to create a character(s) that bring up so much hate per generation? Be it Admiral Ackbar, Jar-Jar Binks, Howard the Duck (admittedly not created by Lucas, but destroyed by him none-the-less), and now CG Gophers, Lucas has done wonders in getting the fanboy community to stop fighting amongst themselves over whether a movie is good or bad and rally around awful characters. One good thing about the vitriol surrounding the CG Gophers is it is deflecting a lot of the hate around CGI Shia LeBeouf swinging from tree to tree with monkeys.

Spread the Cheeks

You might think from the title of the post, that we’re trying to attract the adult gonzo crowd, but I can assure you that while I do enjoy hanging around the hotties, the title of this post, just so happens to be the title to Sean Galloway’s 2008 hardback art book.

Who is Sean Galloway, and why does his art look familiar?

Are you watching the Spectacular Spider-Man on the Kids’ WB! Saturday mornings? That’s where you’ve seen Sean’s work.

Take the jump for Galloway’s take on Thor, plus a sketch of the above image.

Adam Hughes Women of DC Comic Poster Unveiled

Friday, April 18th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

DC_Babes.jpg

Over at the official Adam Hughes site, the master has unveiled his Women of the DC Universe poster that you’ll only be able to pick up at the various conventions Hughes will be appearing at this year.

This is the line art, before DC asked Adam to add Catwoman. You’ll notice on the art on Adam’s table, he had lightly penciled Selina Kyle in on the left hand side. The editors at DC saw this photograph, and asked that she be added to the roster of Heroines and Villianesses on the piece. At that time, the image had already been inked and was in the process of being colored. That’s why we the have line art without Selina.

If you haven’t been reading Catwoman - and obviously many of you haven’t because DC is canceling the series, then you have missed out on some great Adam Hughes covers.

If anyone goes to a con and is able to pick one of these freebies up, do you think you could pick one up for the Major Spoilers HQ wall of hot art?
