Angel_ATF_5_CVR.jpgIDW Publishing has announced the first four issues of Angel: After the Fall have sold out, prompting the company to return to press for additional copies of all issues.

“The fact that Angel: After the Fall has moved so steadily with each issue has been incredibly gratifying,” said IDW’s Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. “Most amazing is the fact that we’ve printed more of each subsequent issue than the previous one, and have overprinted to a greater degree than usual, and still the issues keep selling out. The sell-outs are quite a testament to the support from retailers and the loyal fan base alike.”

In addition to reprints, IDW will feature spin-off stories featuring Angel’s large cast of characters, including another favorite vampire getting his own follow-up series too.

Angel_AtF1.jpgThink of this as Angel: Season Six. IDW Publishing is following the lead of Dark Horse Comics and releasing an all new Angel series that picks up right after Season Five ended.

The first issue in this maxi-series looks at who lived after that climactic battle, who died, and what happened to all of Los Angeles in its wake.

Best of all, Joss Whedon hand picked the creative team of Brian Lynch and Franco Urru to tell the tales, it’s just too bad this is a maxi-series instead of an ongoing. Then again, if fans pick up this series in droves, it could prompt a much longer run, or even a season seven follow up.

With the success of Buffy: Season 8, fans have been wondering if Angel would get a similar treatment. Word out of San Diego is, indeed Angel will have a series that follows the end of the hit television show that ran on the WB.

Angel: After the Fall will be a canoncial series written by Brian Lynch and released by IDW Publishing. You may be familiar with Brian’s work on Spike: Asylum, and if you aren’t, you should be, as this is the title the Joss Whedon read and suggested IDW hire Brian on as Angel’s writer.

Art for the series will be done by Franco Urru who also worked on the Spike series.

The first script is done, and five or six issues have been planned. The series is described by IDW as a 12 issue-plus series.
