Or – “The Lost Legionnaires: Recovered! (Though, Hopefully, Not With Corduroy…)”

Ever since the return of this original Legion of Super-Heroes, (in truth more a kind of Legion 1.5, but there’s really no sense in re-opening that particular line of thought just now) the team has been alternately confused and cryptic about the location of several of their missing members. Any JSA reader can identify the whereabouts of Mr. Kallor, and regular Superman readers have slowly been learning the locations of Mssrs. Daggle, Gand, Ganglios, Kem and series of unprounouncable letters, as well as what is going on with her Majesty, Queen Projectra. Me, I’m wonderin’ where Tyroc is, but it looks like the hidden members of the Espionage Squad are about to blow their cover wide open, thanks to a threat to the entire planet of New Krypton. And things aren’t all that much less confusing for the 30th Century contingent of the team either…
With Brainiac targeting New Krypton in The last Stand of New Krypton, DC has hired Marcos Marz to whip up a variant cover for the first issue.

And, if you want to see some Legion of Super-Heroes action, take the jump to see Aaron Lopresti’s variant cover to Adventure Comics #8.
Or – “There Are Old Pilots And Bold Pilots, But Few Old, Bold Pilots…”

I saw recently that a clinical study proved that January 25th is the most depressing day of the entire year, scientifically and unequivocally. While I don’t disagree with that sentiment (especially as it regards the attendance of employees in Midwestern United States call centers) I find it fascinating that somebody actually got paid to try and figure out something that silly and (let’s be honest, here) banal. Still and all, it’s the kind of story that you read and go, “Yeah, I can see that.” Thus, to ease your slowly-receding ennui (and Stephen’s not-so-slowly receding hairline) I give you another batch of coverage of comics you might have read, but forgot to laugh at the first time… Rapid-Fire Style!
Or – “Already Diverging From The Formula?”

When DC (re)launched Adventure Comics last year, we were told that each issue would consist of two stories of “characters associated with the Adventure Comics title.” What that turned out to mean was a Superboy tale with a Legion of Super-Heroes backup story… Excuse me, Second Feature. This model stayed in place for the first four issues, but then we were thrown a curveball when issue #4’s Superboy was the artist known as Tom Welling Prime. Last issue annoyed me a bit by being a Tom Welling Prime tale followed by a backup co-feature starring the current S-boy. This issue changes things up again, making me wonder if the whole “Backup Feature” idea has already gone by the wayside… Either way, if you’re looking for the wrapping up of loose ends, you won’t be disappointed. If you’re looking for the Legion? You’ll probably be less than thrilled.
Or – “Heeeey, Now Waitaminnit… Now, Wait Just A Minute.”

In my primary line of work, we spend a lot of time chiding and making fun of people for not reading their bill, their contracts, or the inserts that come in their envelope each month. So, it’s kind of ironic that my biggest problem with this issue was clearly labeled on the cover…
After Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul leave Adventure Comics, plans are in place for a four-issue arc that kicks off the next big Superman event. DC Comics announced Brainiac & The Legion of Super-Heroes by James Robinson and Julian Lopez.
James Robinson & Julian Lopez will provide a 10-page story about the Legion members who are in the 21st Century; Sterling Gates & Clayton Henry will provide a 10-pager about the Legion in the 31st Century; and Eric Trautmann & DC newcomer Pier Gallo (wait till you see this guy’s stuff!) will provide a 10-pager about General Lane’s Human Defense Corps.
Finally some answers to what happened to those lost Legion members. Brainiac & the Legion of Super-Heroes will run through Adventure Comics, Superman, Supergirl, and one other title to be named in March, that will lead to the big Superman event this summer. I really got a kick out of the Lightning Saga story, and now that we have some idea of where the Legion stands following Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds saga, this could be the start of much more Superman/Legion comic books.
Since Paul Levitz announced his return to writing for DC, anyone else thinking that To Be Named Title in March, just might be a new Legion of Super-Heroes book?

Of all the characters this site has had a go with over the years, Tom Welling Prime (aka Superboy Prime, aka Superman Prime, aka Whiner Lad) is the one that gets the most attention. Following the end of Legion of 3 Worlds, Prime found himself back on his home world of Earth-Prime, and quite possibly out of the lives of readers forever. But when has DC ever been able to leave a character alone? This week, Matthew and Stephen attempt to tackle the self-referential Adventure Comics #4, that doesn’t feature the young Christopher Reeve, but does feature Tom Welling Prime.

In this issue: Doctor Ten heads for America, but will he have his TARDIS? Doctor Horrible heads for the hills, but is it really Doogie Howser? Doctor Regulus tries to kill the Legion, but they don’t die… THEY MULTIPLY! Plus: Rocky Marciano? Rocky Mariciano? Clark Kent was 257 years old when he fought Rocky Marciano… And: There’s women present, so Stephen and I have to clean up the house and wear pants during the show. THEN: Three kids come back in time to tell Christopher Reeve that the underwear goes INSIDE the pants, but it’s pretty clear that his resume may not be up to date. Either way, Rodrigo’s at volleyball, and Dante has finally stopped vomiting, so the world is a happier place…
Show Notes after the Jump!
Or – “Reconnecting With Old Friends…”

Last time out, Kon-El caught up with Wonder Girl, the love of his life and founding member of Young Justice. She told him of her grief-fueled kiss with Tim Drake, who was Robin at the time, and they forgave one another for youthful indiscretions and/or untimely death. This discussion seems to have spurred Kon to look up his ex-best pal, but the new Red Robin (YUMMM!) is somewhat busy trying to track down a millionaire who is stuck in a cave somewhere… Will their reunion be as cordial as the first?
Or – “Kryptonian Powers And Mental Issues? That’ll Work Out…”

Connor Kent’s return from the dead has not been without it’s complications. Last issue, we saw his attempts to get back to normal and figure out the Superman side of his genetic makeup. Problem is, he’s also trying to figure out his other genetic donor, one Lex Luthor. Kon-El is headed down a slippery slope, and the return of Cassandra Sandsmark to his life ain’t gonna make things any less confusing…

Dan Didio just sent the following to the DC Universe groups
You may have heard that Paul Levitz will be once again adding his considerable talent, drive and creativity to our ever expanding universe as a regular DC Comics writer.
So, what’s his first writing assignment?
Paul is returning to the title he made great as both a writer and editor, ADVENTURE COMICS, and with his eyes set to the future, he brings several of his favorite characters with him. ADVENTURE is the first in a number of projects, both ongoing and mini-series that Paul will be taking on as he joins of our list of top notch creators here at DC.
As Executive Editor, and as a fan, I can’t wait for him to get started.
-Dan DiDio
Well I think Matthew will certainly be happy with this news, as will many of the Legion of Super Heroes fans.
Or – “The Far-Flung World Of 1935!”

“Boss, boss! I got the next big thing in them funnybooks! We’ll call it “Adventure Comics #1!” This ought to be a big hit, see? And we’re thinking that if this Adventure thing works out, we’ve got something called Action Comics ready to go, and Detective Comics in the wings, and maybe even a Fun Comics if we’re freeling really froogy. As soon as we get back from seeing this new play called “Our Town,” we should think of things to put in this here new comics book. Maybe some sort of future characters with bubble helmets and flyin’ belts! Ooh, and y’know that Superman thing Joe and I have been working on for the last couple years? How ’bout we do that same character, only as a boy, see? That way, my kids can sue the pants off the company in 70 years or so! Let’s hope President Roosevelt can put a lid on that Spanish Civil War thingy so this book will sell like hotcakes!”

Dan DiDio spoke with the LA Times this past weekend to hype talk up the major story arcs happening in the big titles. He also revealed the company is bringing back Adventure Comics.
Simultaneous to “Battle for the Cowl,” we’re going to be making changes in Superman’s world as well. Superman has been the star of “Action Comics” for its entire run, essentially, and he will be leaving it and handing it over to new characters. The only time he hasn’t appeared in the book, I believe, was after “The Death of Superman,” in those years. So this is a lot of fun for us. I think that’s going to get people excited and scratching their heads and wondering what’s going on. In his own book, “Superman,” there will be a dramatic turn as the hero leaves Earth and it seems like he’s leaving for good. We’ll follow his adventures in space more so than his adventures on Earth, and that’s a big and exciting thing. We’re also bringing back one of the old-time favorite titles of DC Comics, “Adventure Comics.” It will be back with a new No. 1 and with new stars but old stars at the same time. It’ll be pretty easy to guess who will be the stars of “Adventure Comics” if you know who the title was most identified with…
Now you know where the Legion of Super-Heroes will appear following the ending of the LoSH title. Heck maybe we’ll see Manhunter, Aquaman, Plastic Man, and Dial H for Hero make appearances there too.
