For girls living in Juarez, Mexico, life can be brief, brutal, and tends to end bloody. Some say up to 200 are “missing”… others less optimistic say 400 or more. Someone or something has made killing them a sport, and the authorities are less than motivated when it comes to solving the crimes. Girls have gone “missing” in Juarez for as long as anyone can remember, and like the hellish drudgery of the factories most of them work in, it’s become a way of life. And besides, what are a few more dead girls in a place like this?
The second installment of the 30 Days of Night web series has hit the net, and you can see it here.
With the success of 30 Days of Night in the theater, IDW Publishing quickly followed with 30 Days of Night: Beyond Barrow. The three issue series picked up the events following the original series. The three issues have been collected into a trade paperback that will see the light of day this month.
With two direct graphic novel sequels and assorted spin-off series and prose novels since the original, Beyond Barrow picks up where the ongoing story left off. This time a new creature is lurking, which is preying on both humans and vampires. “By introducing a new threat even to the vampires, this story takes the whole idea further than it’s ever gone before,” says Chris Ryall, publisher and editor-in-chief at IDW Publishing.
The vampire comic book adaptation scored pretty high in the box office, considering the time of year, earning $16 million over the weekend.
Warning: If you watch the clip from the movie (via MovieWeb) be warned there is some graphic violence.

Shock Til You Drop has received three of the posters Sony Pictures will use in theaters to promote the adaptation of Steve Niles’ 30 Days of Night. If you love vampire flicks, this one looks to be the creepiest yet, and will firmly set in my mind that I should never move any farther north than I am right now.

IDW Publishing has announced a prequel to the graphic novel and upcoming movie 30 Days of Night. while you might think a vampire-in-the-arctic-circle story might be a one shot deal, Ben Templesmith returns telling a story set 100 years before the original.
In “30 Days of Night: Red Snow,” Eisner Award-nominated artist Templesmith, makes his debut as writer/artist on the nightmarish world of vampires he co-created. This gritty, three-part tale is set during World War II and follows a British military attach who is assigned to getting aid through Stalin’s frontline troops, all while the Russian winter grows more threatening. However, he finds survival even more difficult than anticipated when an unexpected element-which is much more adept at killing humans than humans are-adds itself to the mix.
Oh great – commie vampires… A quick three page preview after the jump.
Steve Niles, the creator behind 30 Days of Night (soon to be a major motion picutre!) will release a four issue mini-series called Strange Cases this August.
The series focuses on a disparate group of men and women who hunt what frightens humanity most as they’re drawn to Holcomb Manor, a legendary nexus for all things supernatural. Immediately upon arrival our starring slayers are given an offer they may not live long enough to refuse. Along the way, established horror icons Val Helsing, Kolchak and Cal MacDonald among them are twisted in ways even the most dedicated reader would never see coming.
Beyond the miniseries, Strange Cases will also make it to the gaming realm.
