As cool as some of the scenes from the new Punisher movie looked, the movie flopped at the box office this past weekend, bringing in an estimated $4 million. To twist the knife even deeper, this opening was even worse than Howard the Duck – another Marvel property that has become a joke of the movie industry.
For those worried that this is a death knell for Marvel, keep in mind this movie is not a Marvel Studios flick, but rather release by Lionsgate, who probably shot themselves in the foot by releasing Transporter 3 last weekend.

Lionsgate will be lucky to recoup the cost of one of these movies from ticket sales of both.
Good God, that’s a horrible opening. The movie itself was awful, but I would never have guessed the ticket sales to be that low.
Well I can tell just by looking at the previews for this flick that it is even worse than the last Punisher movie that came out in 2004, so…
what do you expect?
I still think the old Punisher movie with all the ninjas flying around from back in the old days the best entry in the series.
Compare this to Iron Man and the Hulk and you’ll see why Marvel decided to quickly take hold of their franchises. Had they not, this may have been a pretty abysmal year for the companies movies. Now Marvel had best get all of their franchises in line to avoid any other disapointments such as this.
the damn thing doesn’t play anywhere, and i live in the biggest town in the province (montreal). i want to see it because just the look of the character is more like the comic book (my opinion of course)
well, actually it does play in a theatre north of the island, but it is so far and it is so complicated to go there that i don’t count it as a viable option.
I was going to right a hateful rant on how this movie (which looked like an even shittier version of Shoot em up) was of course goin to suck, but making less money than Howard the Duck…ouch
