What the quote about imitation being the best flattery? There are quite a few things working best for the “rip-off” shows. Even as ratings dip for Heroes, they have far more viewers than X-Men have readers. On their worst night they have a million people who may have never read X-Men, while on X-Men’s best day they may have 100,000 readers. Given most the readers may watch the show, it does not work in reverse. Also most viewers have a very short attention span (hence the reruns), while comic readers can remember a story line from 1986 (for example).
I believe Matthew and Rodreigo was trying to make an arguement that can be better explained in three words:
“Simpsons did it”……………
