The remake of Conan was announced last summer, and now Brett Ratner is in final negotiations to direct the feature.

Ratner jibed to the “Conan” script by Gersh-repped Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, who looked to Robert E. Howard’s original pulp stories of the 1930s to create their take on the character. The writers are doing a quick polish to incorporate some of Ratner’s ideas, with an eye toward releasing the film in 2010.

Since this is diving into the source material, Lionsgate is expecting an R rating for the feature, and is shelling out $85 million for the budget.

    RATNER – GODDAMN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hollywood is a vile cesspool of untalented idiots.

  • hermit:

this is gonna suck, just because of rattner.

the need to cast an awesome conan, shwarzy was just too perfect for the role.

  • Hat of Tim:

This is not good news. The best thing Ratner ever directed was Madonna’s “Beautiful Stranger” video…but X-Men 3 sucked. A lot. The only director who could make a worse hash of this would be Lee Tamahori, who made a pig’s ear of both Die Another Day & XXX 2…so if Ratner doesn’t get this, Tamahori probably will! Shame Zack Snyder seems to be too busy at the moment!

And if Ratner does get it, I predict he’ll cast Vinny Jones as Conan.

    Crom.

Maybe if they do a spin on Conan that nobody has done before, you will realize that different interpretations of source material are not always bad.
    Picture this!!
    Opening Shot:
    1. Slow pan up the blade of a large sword in dim light. Low Strings instruments sputtering on a dissonant chord in the background. When you get to the hilt a light from heaven begins to shine down this mighty weapon. Then mid-ranged horns begin a slow heroic theme as a hand grabs the sword. Finally the coup de gras is Rosie ODonnell as Conan in a Rhinestone tunic beginning the opening number of “Autumn for Conan and Cimmeria” in a wailing seventies disco.

I bet Rattner doesn’t look so bad now.
