I still get the feeling this is going to be a great superhero flick, showing what happens when the nut jobs push for a kindler gentler hero that too constrained by rules to be effective.

I’m of two minds about this flick.
Pros:
At least Will Smith didn’t make this movie ten years ago.
Looks to explore the superhero as disturbed loner PROPERLY, not Brian Singer’s clumsy and unnecessary SuperStalker.
Looks to mix comedy and drama with a decent, un-silly balance.
Freedom of an unlicensed DC/Marvel character.
Cons:
Will Smith hasn’t made a good action movie in ten years.
Costume ripped off from X-Men, and Supreme Power’s “Blur.”
Trailer makes it sound like he’s the world’s only superhuman. After not one but two Superman movies exploring this, not to mention, another hero who ONLY faces missiles, fires, and trains sounds a little lame.
Comic fans will probably spot three dozen blatant ripoffs of comic book plot points.
There has been exactly ONE really, really good “original and unlicensed” superhero movie (Unbreakable, unless you count Pootie Tang) with a sea of crap otherwise.
Matinee or dollar theater, but I do want to see it at some point.
Um, I have a man crush on Will Smith and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Hancock definitely looks promising and will help maintain his stranglehold on July 4th multiplexes.
