This is supposed to be set about 50-something years into the future from present day Marvel 616. So why does Wolverine look OLD. He was already over 100 years old and still looked like a man in his prime, another 50 years and he turns into this? Something must've happened to his healing factor.

In some of the earlier comics Logan did have those in his hands. They were used to keep the pathway open in his hands because every time he "pops" them it tears his hands open so they were at one time used with out the gloves to keep the holes open. (I think it was in The Wolverine Saga 1-4 TPB where I read this)
They were not grafted but nice little inserts to keep the muscle apart. How that would really work with his healing abilities who knows, but it was previously used and that is where Turner probably got the idea to add them.

maybe the horse in the picture kicked his hands as logan was trying to mount it from behind thus shoving those things into his hands and he keeps them there as a reminder of his own stupidity for trying ride the horse in more ways than one....it would explain why he always looks angry.

Someone should tell Michael Turner that Logan doesn't have those cylinders implanted in his hands - they are part of his gloves. The blades, on the other hand, do come directly out of his hands. Or I guess it is possible than in a distant future, something will happen that will cause said glove cylinders to become permanently grafted onto Logan's hands.
