I spent this past Free Comic Book Day at Heroes And Dreams in Flowood, MS. I’m sure you have already read my reviews of the free comics my family picked up (didn’t you?), but now I can let you know a little more about what activities happened at the store before we made it there.
- An appearance by the Mississippi Outpost of the 501st
- An appearance by the Mandalorian Mercs
- Artist Jesse Labbe was in-store to draw sketches for the fans

Having not been to the store before, I took a moment to speak with store manager Dale Griffin and asked him what Free Comic Book Day meant for him and the store.
“Free Comic Book Day is a great way for people new and old to enjoy comics. It allows them to try new stories at no cost to them and decide if they might like to start reading a new book. For us, Free Comic Book Day is also a day for us to give back to the community. This year we celebrated New Comic Book Day at the Flowood Library where Jay handed out comics to young readers from 11:00 am to noon. Every year we also donate a percentage of our profits to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital, and this year we doubled our donation from last year!”
All in all, Free Comic Book Day turned out to be a success for everyone involved. I heard a lot of happy customers around the store while I was there, and I know I personally am looking forward to next time!

Born in the Bronze Age and matured in the Modern Age, Stacy Baugher has loved comics since before he could read. He remembers looking through spinner racks as a child at the drug store and wondering how many comics he could convince his parents to buy him on that trip. Later he remembers driving for an hour each way to go to the nearest comic store, and embarking on each trip with a wish list that was quickly forgotten in a wave of comic euphoria. Still residing in Mississippi, where he as born and raised, he spends his free time with his wife and daughter, hoping that his little girl won't think him to much of a geek when she gets older.

He has written several Golden Age Hero Histories, and currently writes reviews and The Comic Casting Couch articles. When he is not working to pay the bills, enjoying his family, or writing, he is a photographer. His current Comic Holy Grail is a mint copy of Mysterious Suspense #1. after he finally obtains that, who knows...
