The Red Skull has been called up to be the big bad in the upcoming The First Avenger: Captain America, according to director Joe Johnston. Considering the majority of the film will take place during World War II, it makes sense for Red to be the villain.
“Virtually the entire story except the bookends are in World War II because we all recognize we have one chance to tell the origin story of how he became Captain America, you can’t tell a modern story and then go back and tell the origin story. If you’re going to do it, let’s do it. Let’s do it first. Everyone wanted to tell an origin story. There was a version where it was a modern story and it didn’t work.”
It’s also expected that we’ll find out who will play Captain America around the end of February.

In order for all of us to get as much out of this movie as possible, TPTB should be willing to section off a part for a well placed and edited montauge. If they need pointers they should refer to “UP” and relearn how you can tell almost a whole storyline in a few seconds.
WWII setting? Thank God!
I kept having nightmares of them setting it with a new character taking over the name and costume modern day and only making references to the original Steve Rogers who was lost at sea.
That said, as long as they remember that Red Skull was German and not Italian, I am looking forward to this!
