RIP Christopher Reeve
I admit, I’m not sure but didn’t Sam Jackson have to give his consent for the continued use of his likeness as Nick Fury after he heard about The Ultimates comic? Maybe that’s why it kind of bothers me that Reeve’s likeness is being used here. It almost feels trivial or like he’s being taken advantage – now that he’s been dead for few years – to sell copies.
Although you don’t have to be an intimate friend of Geoff Johns to believe that’s not even REMOTELY the intent of the creating staff. I dig that it’s a tribute – I do – to a beloved version of Superman that even 30 years later is very hard to beat.
While George Reeves was my first exposure to a live action Superman, he was long dead when I first saw him on TV. When Christopher Reeve’s tragedy occurred and he chose to stay alive and fight to see a cure to his paralysis, he took a road that I’m not afraid to admit I wouldn’t have.
And I guess, at the end of the day, besides the acting role, he was and always will be MY Superman.
