More realistic than the red-and-blues? Maybe.

But, lord, it looks like Neo bought a t-shirt! C’mon!

  • Mike:

Agreed, but maybe it ties into the plot somehow. He’s doing the whole “I’m not human, it’s time to be what I really am” thing, but I can see him eventually doing the “No, Earth is my home, etc.” and putting the red and blues on.

  • Jacin B:

It’s probably as close an approximation to Kryptonian fashion as he can come up with here on Earth. They tended to be about the monochromatic look, with the long, draping overcoats.

    It’s growing on me.

  • Navarre:

The dude wore a red jacket for 8 seasons. Superman is iconic not stealthy.

I can see that they are probably trying to get there gradually because Clark has been anxious about assuming his destiny.

But if that trench coat was red (along with the t-shirt symbol), it would do much more for the character.

It fits the “Red-and-Blue Blur” thing they’ve already done. And it keeps him from looking like Morpheus needs to give him the red pill.

  • Gaumer:

Did he paint that ‘S’ himself? what, no Bedazzler?

  • Navarre:

The “S” is a little low and small, I think. He seems more like a guy who lives in his mom’s basement and wants to look cool when he rolls out to the local comic shop on Wednesday.

  • MaximusRift:

What is Hollywood’s obsession with equating superpowers with the color black? Is that a rule now? Does everybody and anybody with a power HAVE TO wear black clothes? I’ve had enough of the black clothes obsession.

  • Look at the whole costume…

then add a cowboy hat, a red ‘kerchief and put a lasso in his hand…

    I’m just sayin’….

  • lifeisaglitch:

You guys just don’t get it cause you didn’t grow up on THE STREET like Kevin Smith and I… Internet cookies for all the people who may catch the reference!

  • Slappy:

Are we returning to the 90’s?

  • Jordan Levells:

Why is Clark Kent wearing Batman’s costume from Gotham By Gaslight? Is there really any reason for this except ” Black is sexier and read and blue are too cartoonish”? The Electric Blue/Orange costume from the ’90s looks mor iconic than this.

Look, I know the all black thing worked for the X-Men movies, but were talking about an icon here. This man’s color scheme has been known for 70+ years now, there’s no need to change it to something so generic and unmemorable. Admittedly, its not the owrst costume for him, but come on, the man has access to alien tech and has fought alongside brightly colored heroes already. You’d think he’d have a little more creativity. and if you’re going for a Kryptonian loo or motif, why not just have him wear a variant on Jor-El’s costume from the 1970’s Superman movie? It may be a little to angelic, but it would at least make sense and you could use the angelic look to at least try one story where Clark is seen as something of an angelic figure and it goes so over the top he realizes that every decision he makes will affect his modus operandi as a superhero and a a leader.

P.S. To the costume designer who thought this costume was a good idea, look up Project Rooftop on Google. Any of the designs for the Superman costume there are AT LEAST a liitle more creative.

  • Jim:

This always reminds me of what Milo whatever his name is was wearing on the first season of “Heroes”

  • Why does this look like something out of the Jon Peters take on the Superman franchise?

  • Scott of Burke:

Gee, did Clark Kent have a Cell Phone? This is SMALLVILLE done in ‘our’ present day time. There are NO phone booths folks. If YOU were Clark, would you want to go bright Red & Blue? Spiderman’s colors make sense for a “Comic Book” but in the real world the Black Costume (A true spider color) is perfect. In this day & age the only way Kal-El could stay undetected would be with a mask. We all realize it’s make-believe but it’s easier for me to believe that Kal-El would rather go in dark colors….and a CAPE is aerodynamically a non-starter.

Hmmm… Okay, then let me ask you this. What fun is it when everybody dresses like Batman? The “real world” argument holds no water for me, especially as a fan of wrestling, where outre outfits are the norm. I am entertained by the notion that Superman or the Superman mythos is the place where we should start for any type of “realistic” storytelling.
