Well, I couldn’t be more repulsed if Marvel put Doc Ock in a clown suit made of kitten leather and changed all his dialogue to a repetition of “I Eat My Own Farts”. As with every other aspect of the JMS-era run (e.g. Mature Peter, Likeable Supporting Cast, Capable Aunt May, INTELLIGENT WRITING), the new braintrust’s instructions for revamping is to drag it through the gutter. Hence, Venom-Without-The-Interesting-Bits, Goblin-Demon-Who-Is-A-Pregant-Lady, and Ridiculous-Vulture-Who-Vomits.

I miss capable, manipulative Doc Ock in a white suit & sunglasses, as opposed to this bastardized tipoff of Doctor Colossus. I miss Spider-Man being someone to laugh with rather than sigh at, someone I’d enjoy talking to rather than kicking. Hell, I even miss Warren Ellis’ Osborn as opposed to Osborn as Super-Heavy-Handed-Political-Metaphor.

The more this character and property gets tangled into horrible knots, the less likely it seems that it’ll be untangled rather than simply cut through, Alexander-style. But I won’t be there to see it. I grow bored even with mocking or criticising marvel already. I’m done with this.

This was a centennial issue done right! A good, long one shot story (over 60 pages of John Romita Jr. art!), lots of back up stories, and all no reprints! I would have been nice to have a cover gallery like the other #600 books, but that’s a small complaint for such a value (over 100 pages for $5!). More like this please!
