THOR03pg00b.jpgMarvel Studios has announced it has hired Matthew Vaughn to direct the Thor movie. Mark Protosevich wrote the adaptation, and with Vaughn at the helm, Marvel hopes hopes to roll film this winter.

“Thor” marks Vaughn’s second effort at a superhero pic. He was attached to direct “X-Men 3″ before bowing out for personal reasons. Vaughn, who produced the Guy Ritchie-directed films “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch,” made his directing debut with the Daniel Craig starrer “Layer Cake.”

Since the House of Ideas is steadily moving toward an Avengers movie, having Thor on board seems like a sure bet. I just wonder what story or arc Protosevich has pulled from when writing the script.

Still on the line-up from Marvel
Ant-Man, Marvel – Writer (Edward Wright, Joe Cornish) and director (Edgar Wright) engaged
Captain America, Marvel – Writer engaged (David Self)
Nick Fury, Marvel – Writer engaged (Andrew Marlowe)
The Avengers, Marvel – Writer engaged (Zak Penn)
