Marvel Stamps Arrive Thursday

Last year it was all about the DC pantheon of heroes, this year, the United States Postal Service pays homage to Marvel characters in a new collection of stamps being unveiled Thursday at the San Diego Comic-Con.

I went out an purchased a full sheet last year, and will do the same with the Marvel stamps first thing Friday morning.

The 41-cent stamps include Sub-Mariner, The Thing, Captain America, the Silver Surfer, Spider-Woman, Elektra, Wolverine, and everyone’s favorite wall crawlers Spider-Man.

The other 10 stamps depict classic Marvel Comic book covers linked to the super heroes. Information about the artwork shown on each stamp appears on the back on the stamp pane.

Don’t wait until tomorrow, take the jump to see all the stamps in one place.

Hey, look, it’s that Comic Sans font that I hate so much. :)

  2. Mark I. Says:

Elektra? How does she keep extending her fifteen minutes? Are there scores of die-hard Elektra fans out there, seriously? Because anyone who claims to be a die-hard Elektra fan is really getting the most out of the one great storyline she was involved with…the one where she, you know, died, kinda sorta?

Then again, Spider-Woman kind of catches me off guard too. Were they so hard up for good female Marvel characters that all we got were those two? Wouldn’t Storm have been more appropriate anyway, since the only faces of color on those stamps are gamma green, cosmic orange, and er, iron…gold?

  3. Brent F. Says:

    Why Elektra?

  4. Matthew Peterson Says:

Because she had her own movie and Marvel editorial is in love with the spectre of Frank Miller…

  5. Jim Says:

Didn’t the DC stamp group include Plastic Man? So maybe there’s a required amount of WTF choices…

  6. Matthew Peterson Says:

For some odd reason, the average Joe or Josephine on the street remembers Plastic Man and his red costume. I don’t know if it’s the cartoon series he had in the 70’s or what, but most people know him… Of course, most people call Barry Allen ‘Flash Gordon’ in my experience, so, who knows?

  7. Leroygrey Says:

You don’t like an Electra stamp? Which female would YOU have picked?

  8. Mark I. Says:

    Storm
    Invisible Woman
    Wasp
    Jean Grey
    She-Hulk
    Rogue

Although to be fair, when you have to make a list of high-profile super-heroines, you do realize how thin the top of the food chain really is. Elektra is still in the top five or ten just because WHO ELSE IS THERE? But I stand by Storm as clearly the better choice. Elektra, as “bad-ass” as she is, isn’t any more stamp-worthy than Mary Jane.

Who could be put up for DC stamps among females?

    Wonder Woman
    Supergirl
    Batgirl
    Power Girl
    Lois Lane
    Hawkgirl
    Zatanna

Really hits a wall after four or five down in both companies, eh?
