Stephen, I think that Braniac could work…
THE BEATS
1) Mysterious virus hitting/stealing tech at WayneTech, LexCorp, and Kord Industries
2) Clark and Lois working on a rumors of a mysterious terrorist organization using high tech weapons (ala Intergang)
3) We think it is Luthor, third act switch it’s Brainiac!
4) Swarms of Brainiac drones hitting various cities (great chance to cameo other heroes protecting the people)
5) Defeat of Brainiac, US Ambassador to the UN Maxwell Lord approaches Superman and Batman with the idea of a strikeforce/team to assist the world’s governments against the really big threats no one goverment could handle. Of look, Lord is accompanied by a certain green-skinned-manhunter.

But just brainstormin’ here.

I wonder who else would work to be a big bad for any new Superman movie… Maybe Bizarro if they can make him awesome enough. I also wouldn’t mind Darkseid though.

But if they wanna make a Superman/Batman crossover, I think they would have to go with the ever reliable Lex if they ant a character that both characters have a major amount of history in and that everybody’s already familiar with.

Lex is cool but I dont think he needs to be in a Superman movie to make it be successful.

If you dont have him as the villain, what does he do? He’s so good at being the villain :)

He could meet up with Bruce Wayne in a business thing…I dont know.

I agree that Superman’s story doesn’t need to be retold. If you must, do it like in Watchmen where 30 – 40 years were covered in the opening credits. Also, have Lex in the picture, but not be the villain.

I meant a reboot more in the sense of having a brand new cast of actors and an all around better creative team.

I couldn’t agree more that I don’t want to see a retelling of the origin story, but I do want to see a better movie than “Returns.” Without Brandon Routh. No More Routh.

NO! NO MORE REBOOTS! You cannot tell me that the average man on the street does not know the Superman origin. Just start the movie with an action fight scene and hang on. Touch on the general origin with background chatter (rocket from another planet, yadda-yadda…)

Just act like the other movies never existed. Stop wasting time/money on a build up origin movie! Tweek the costume slightly (nothing radical, just a little streamlining) but stay true to the comic. Hell, make Jimmy Olsen (or someone like him, Lois?) as a window into Supes world.

The comic (Action and others) have been around for SEVENTY-SEVEN YEARS (77)!!!!!! There has not ever really been a time when Superman was not in some comic at some time for the last three quarters of a century. MAYBE they have been doing SOMETHING right.

And don’t use the “more modern viewers/readers need to be updated” excuse.

Sorry to make my “returning” post a rant, but this whole reboot issue (comics and movies) is a point that really bugs me.

There’s nobody on Earth or Krypton that can convince me that Super Man Returns was any good at all. The sooner DC realizes that Super Man needs another reboot, the better. How that piece of kryptonite crap will ever fit in with The Dark Knight is beyond me.

I like the idea of the DC movies becoming a single universe like Marvel is trying, but there is no way in hell the badassness of the Dark Knight fits in with whatever the hell happened in that damn Superman returns flick.

Superman was good, but how do you fit that Batman movie into any other universe?
