Who would have guessed that the original Atari Asteroids game would have four studios in a bidding war over who would get the rights to produce the movie. Universal Pictures apparently paid the most money, with Matthew Lopez writing the screenplay.
9o minutes of a space ship spinning around in space blowing up stuff real good doesn’t sound too exciting, so Lopez will need to come up with an original story to wrap around the 1979 game concept.

If their bidding for it, wouldn’t that mean they already have a tacky script to hang on it.
I mean, that’s the new Hollywood move right? Get the rights to a big famous name and hang a crappy script on it. ;p

f* Asteroids, If they will do something based upon Atari, how about the original arc from Atari Force from DC Comics of the 1980’s. That was a pretty good story.
If not how about Donkey Kong film including a love scene between Pauline (with Bea Arthurs face imposed over the actresses body) and Donkey Kong himself. Once you go beastial you never go back.
