Cheeks a fantastic artist and a great designer. It’s nice to see him getting some cover work at Marvel. It’s just a shame that the vast majority of American audiences are ignorant to the concept of fresh art styles, and that fact alone will keep Cheeks from reaching superstardom.
I think the Spider-Man cartoon will launch him to superstardom.
It would have happened by now. When’s the last time the general comic book community paid attention to an animation designer? Bruce Timm? And that was how long ago?
I really want to pick up this guy’s sketch book.
@Josh
He’s already gotten plenty of more exposure now than he would have if he wasn’t part of Spectacular Spider-man. Who’s to say that he won’t continue to get more work as word of mouth continues to spread? Especially if Spidey gets picked up for a third season (which it better)…
@ The_Julian
Who’s to say he will? You seem to be forgetting all of the other truely fantastic designers out there who go unnoticed and unappreciated. Cheeks is making a name for himself, for sure, but looking at this industry’s track record in supporting fresh talent, a betting man wouldn’t put odds on Cheeks becoming a household name.
I never said he’d be a houshold name, I said he’s getting more exposure. I never really expect him to be famous on that level, but considering how many people know about Cheeks that didn’t before spidey (including me), I believe he will continue to find more work at marvel as he gets more popular.
You do know that Cheeks made the char. designs for Hellboy Animated… So yeah, he’s no doodler. Definetly worths following.
