While I usually leave the news flashes to Stephen, (I seem to recall that he got an ‘A’ in Newswriting 101, whereas I got a ’C+’ because of the girl who later married my then-best friend) this one was just too good not to pass along. In this weeks ‘Lying In The Gutters,’ Rich Johnston is reporting good news for those of us who were entertained by Christopher Bird’s petition to write Legion of Superheroes…

I understand that Chris Bird has been asked by DC to produce a spec script and proposal for Legion of Super-Heroes based on his “30 Reasons Why I Should Write The Legion” series on his LiveJournal.

That’ll be one hell of a “how I broke into comics” story.

Here’s hoping that something comes of it, if only for the return of Blok and Matter-Eater Lad!  Stephen’s original thoughts on it can be found here, but here is but one of the many reasons why I believe that Chris really GETS The Legion…

  • Thanks for posting Matt Let’s get a campaign going for Matthew everyone!

  • Mark I.:

    Go Matt Go!!!

That looks funny…Stephen threw me off…I knew the guy’s name was Chris even as I was typing!

    Go CHRIS Go…damn.

Well, anyway to flesh it out, if he can even do a one-shot with some of the ideas he’s thrown out there, it should be a helluva story.

  • Actually, I wouldn’t mind seeing Matthew’s take on Legion too! Unfortunately, it would probably be a Blok-centric issue…sigh…

  • Matthew Peterson:

Well, crap… Chris Bird has this to say…

Rich Johnston posted this earlier today at Lying In The Gutters, and I’ve already seen half-a-dozen posts around the comics blogosphere mention it enthusiastically (which is flattering):

    It would be, wouldn’t it?

But as of right now, it’s not true. DC Comics hasn’t contacted me in any official capacity. Not Dan Didio, not Legion editor Mike Marts, not the mailroom boy, nothing. I just want to make sure everybody understands this so DC’s position on this isn’t mis-represented.
