Rob Liefeld’s return to YOUNGBLOOD with President Barack Obama exploded with a nearly instantaneous sell-out despite a very significant over print.

The YOUNGBLOOD appearance by President Obama marks the very beginning of Liefeld’s return to his seminal creation. Starting in May, Rob will return to the book in full force, full time as he takes over the writing and illustrating duties to present a whole new direction for the team. This news comes on the heels of mega-director Brett Ratner (X-MEN 3, RUSH HOUR) announcing he’ll be taking the reins of the upcoming YOUNGBLOOD feature film.
YOUNGBLOOD #8 2nd Printing, a 32-page full color comic book for $2.99, will be in-stores March 11th, 2009.

“Change You Can Believe In”, on a title that’s a deliberate mash-up of the various features which had readers tearing their hair and shattering their own jaws with bricks back in the 90s.
Oh, the irony.
Well, glad Liefield found a way to get people to buy his comic. If things like plot, characterization, and artistic talent are severely lacking, throw the president on the cover! It worked for Spidey and Savage Dragon!

So, when’s Erik Larsen gonna bitch about Liefield using President Obama on his cover? If he doesn’t, then he’s a hypocrite.
Ned: I think Larsen made his comments toward Marvel because the media and Marvel made a big deal over the cover, acting like this was the first time it had been done, with Larsen responding with his “I did it first” as a response. If Youngblood sells out five times, then we’ll see if Larsen favors his co-founder or not.
Personally, I’m getting sick of seeing Obama on the cover of comics. Marvel did it and got a lot of press, now everyone is jumping on. It’s starting to look like a lot of comic publishers are nothing but a bunch of sheep.
